Emergent literacy- literacy in preschool age. In our creative effort of bringing out and cultivating“the hundred languages of children”, the comprehensive written and spoken word and the process of its building are indispensible elements. Children use and explore language engaging in authentic instances of cooperation and communication. We ensure that children come in contact with authentic versatile texts of everyday life and literature. Nothing is offered in a fragmentary manner; rather, our objective is that having the whole, they can conquer the part. The literacy process is not limited to learning and the future correct use of lexicogrammatical types; it extends to bringing children in contact with comprehensive and socially framed texts/ comprehensive texts with social framing and familiarizing them with different semiotic means used in the learning process for the presentation and understanding of the meaning.
The contact with the rich visual material is an indispensible element, as this dominates children’s experience and their everyday life. At the same time, it becomes the resource for the development of visual literacy, an integral aim of the whole learning process.
